New Spinning Studio Near Chelmsford Border Hopes to Continue Growth

InMotion's Kiki Tobin says things have been going well at her new fitness studio, the first in town geared toward the cycle-based fitness practice known as Spinning.

Looking for something new in the world of local fitness clubs? Kiki Tobin thinks she has the answer, and all you need to do is take a spin down to the Westford/Chelmsford border.

Right across from the Westford Swim and Tennis Club on Littleton Road, Tobin recently opened the InMotion Cycling Studio with high hopes for what is Westford’s first ever fitness studio dedicated specifically to the exercise form known as “Spinning.”

Between Thanksgiving-themed classes and special guests, Tobin says that the first few weeks in town have been going well.

“It’s been fun,” she says. “People have been bringing in their friends and family to work off the calories.”

Tobin sought a change after a career in physical therapy, and discovered an entirely different business model focused more on group sales with this new venture, although the two worlds still combine in other practical ways.

“Spinning is great for people looking to exercise after they’ve been told they can’t run, people with knee or back injuries,” she said. “You still get that runner’s high without doing any of the running.”

Although spinning is offered at other gyms in town, including Swim and Tennis across the street, Tobin sees a niche and a symbiotic relation with other personal trainers in the area.

“There are plenty of places in town that focus on strength training and what we focus on is cardio,” she said. “But doing this in combination with strength training is a great adjunct.”

The studio does not provide memberships, with clients instead paying per class.
