Farmers Market Winery Hopes to Show What State Has to Offer

In Patch's latest Farmers Market spotlight, we look at Westport Rivers, which travels over an hour to bring wine to Westford customers each week.

The circus comes to Westford on Tuesday afternoons. Sort of.

Westport Rivers, the latest vendor in Patch's video series on the Westford Farmers Market, travels more than an hour to sell wine to customers in town. Because of the nature of the business, Clark Andrew said he feels like he's in another business.

"It's kind of like you take the carnival to town," said Andrew, who said he enjoys the Westford Farmers Market because of the variety of people he goes to meet throughout the summer. "You bring all your stuff, unpack, set up shop for a few hours and move on to the next town. Part of that is why I like it as well."

Westport Rivers is located on the south coast of Massachusetts. Andrew said his company surprises some people because many residents are unaware the type of product that can be made locally.

"It surprises a lot of people that our state grown, local winery can kind of compete with the big boys," said Clark. "We try to position ourselves to compete with Napa Valley or France, and I think we do a really good job of that."

To visit Westport Rivers and other vendors, you can head to the Westford Farmers Market each Tuesday from 2:30-6:30 p.m. on Town Common through the fall.
