Another Westford Mom Throws Her Hat Into The World of Small Business

It might not be cupcake related, but just like the trend earlier this year, Laura Floyd hopes to strike out on her own and help local moms with their party planning.

2012 has been a year of entrepreneurship in Westford, and now another Westford mom is looking to start her own business focused on planning parties for children.

Laura Floyd Events, which opened this month, is the brain child of Westford mom Laura Floyd.

After leaving the Wellington Management Group in 2004 to start a family, Floyd began to throw parties for her three girls and their friends. After awhile, her parties began to gain the attention of fellow parents, enough so that it seemed like a good idea for a business.

“I saw so many parents working flat out during the week to make a great life for their kids.  When it came time to throw a birthday party, they’d get overwhelmed with the details involved," she said. "I wanted to give those parents a way out of the craziness and a way to relax and enjoy their child at these times that are supposed to be pure fun for everyone.”

Floyd hopes to take skills she gained with Wellington organizing events such as catering the 1999 Ryder Cup in Brookline to help local parties with a variety of parties ranging from sweet sixteens to first communions to high school graduations.
