Westford Couple Welcomes Daughter On the Fourth of July

Baby came a bit early for the Manuilov family.

Maybe the rainbow that Westford resident Anastasiya Manuilov saw as Hurricane Arthur made its way up the East coast on July 3, was a sign that something  special would happen. In the early hours of the 4th of July, Anastasiya went into labor, several weeks before her due date. She delivered her first child, Olivia Milania Manuilov, at 10:01 a.m. on the 4th of July.

Weighing in at 6 pounds, 1 ounce, and measuring 19.5 inches long, Olivia was the first baby born at Emerson Hospital this Independence Day. She was delivered by Dr. Avra Jordano-Alter MD, FACOG of Concord OB/GYN Associates who was covering for Anastasiya’s regular medical team, Dr. Ingrid Balcomb, MD, FACOG and Erin Rauker, NP, of AFA Obstetrics & Gynecology.

“I said to Anastasiya on our way to the hospital, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if she was born on the 4th of July?’ It turned out it wasn’t funny – it was for real!” said proud new father Anton Manuilov. “I will never miss my daughter’s birthday, it is very special having a 4th of July baby.”

The parents chose to deliver Olivia at the Emerson Hospital Clough Birthing Center after doing their research on birthing centers in the area. “The doctors’ reputations were great, everyone is so nice here, and it is close to home. Plus the hats they give the new babies are very cute,” explains Anastasiya. Anton added that his sister was born at Emerson twenty-one years ago and he remembers the experience as being a very good one. Baby Olivia isn’t the only one in the family to be born on Independence Day, she shares her special birthday with Anton’s step-sister, who is now grown.

The Manuilov’s were planning to spend a quiet 4th of July at home, preparing for their daughter’s arrival. Instead, they spent the day at Emerson Hospital, getting to know their new daughter.

To help the family celebrate, the hospital food services team brought them a festive 4th of July cake topped with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream. Every afternoon all families on the Labor and Delivery unit enjoy a variety of treats made by the food services team and delivered room to room.
