Snow Expected For Tuesday Afternoon in Massachusetts

By Robert Gates

A winter storm warning was issued on Monday afternoon by the National Weather Service in Massachusetts for a 24 hour period from 1 p.m. Tuesday through 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The warning was issued at 3:58 p.m. on Monday.

The so-called “jackpot” area will still be on Cape Cod, but heavy snow with accumulations of 4-8 inches are now expected on the North Shore from Tuesday into Wednesday.

The snow is expected to start on Tuesday afternoon and last through Wednesday morning.

"Snow covered roadways will cause difficult driving conditions,” the weather service said. “Periods of moderate to heavy snow along with gusty winds will cause visibilities at a mile or less.”

The wind will blow from the north at 10-20 miles per hour with gusts to 35 mph.

In addition to the heavy snow and strong wind, the temperature will be in single digits and the teens.

As has been the case all winter, the snow will have its greatest impact on driving with travel “slow at best on well treated surfaces and quite difficult on any unplowed or untreated surfaces,” according to the weather service.
