Man Being Honored For Role In Preserving O'Brien Farm

Charles McCulough of Waltham and his family has helped maintain Westford's O'Brien Farm for generations, and he will be honored next weekend for his work.

The transformation of Westford's O'Brien Farm into a protected and publicly accessible conservation area this year took place in part thanks to a man who will be honored later this week.

Charles McColough of Waltham will be be awarded the Sudbury Valley Trustees Life Member award for his work in managing the farm, which has been in his family since 1886.

Thanks to the work of McColough, local residents will be able to use a well-developed trail network on the Vose Road property for activities such as skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding or bird watching as well as providing an area for the cultivating of minor agriculture, horticulture, forestry and other uses that will preserve the natural property for future generations.

The Sudbury Valley Trustees will also give awards to Ray Nava of Wayland, Donald MacIver and Rick Findlay of Littleton, Marjorie Fisher of Westborough, Donna and Art Appel of Belmont as well as Governor Deval Patrick.

Ceremonies will begin a 2 p.m. at the Wolbach Farm in Sudbury.
