Softball Defeats Lincoln Sudbury in 9 Innings Loses to Boston Latin

In a nine inning battle at L-S, the ghosts beat the Warriors 10-5 on Thursday.  With a 4-5 record, the Westford Academy softball team rallied to score 5 runs in the extra inning game.  The ghosts came out swinging with Morgan Ross and Alexa Sullivan each hitting a single to get the game started. Meagan Scannell hit another single to score two runs. LS came back strong in the bottom of the first with four runs. Westford added a run in the third and fourth inning with a single from Scannell and a double from co-captain Christie Raymond.  Things stayed tied up until the seventh with a run scored by both teams. Sullivan hit a triple followed by Scannell’s single, scoring the only run of the inning. Unfortunately LS answered back, to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Westford came alive in the 9th.  Ross reached first, followed by another triple from Sullivan to put the ghosts ahead. Scannell and Raymond both singled before Emily Chateauneuf hit a homer to put the ghosts up by a total of five runs. Chateauneuf is hitting almost a homerun a game and is on an incredible streak. LS couldn’t respond and the Ghosts won.  Raymond pitched the entire game, throwing almost 165 pitches.

On Friday, the softball team faced Boston Latin at home and lost in a tough defeat in the sixth inning by giving up four runs. The ghosts had been ahead by two going into the sixth inning.  Boston Latin came out strong in the first by scoring three runs. But Westford battled back scoring a run in the first, and second, and two more in the third. Boston Latin added four more runs in the third inning as well. By the fifth inning the score was tied at 7-7. Ross hit a single and Chateauneuf homered, giving the ghosts a 9-7 lead. Unfortunately WA couldn’t hold on, giving up four runs before the game ended. The offense was powered by Sullivan (2 doubles and a single, Scannell ( double), Caroline Baggeroer.  Deanna Johnston started in the circle before getting hit by a line drive, causing her to leave the game. Freshman Angela Alibrandi came in for two innings, before Christie Raymond finished the game.
