Murphy Rallies Ghosts to 10-9 Victory over Dracut

In a wild game on Sunday afternoon at Westford Academy softball team beat Dracut in a 10-9 victory in the bottom of the 7th inning. Sophomore Kayla Murphy (2 for 5)  hit a grand slam to bring the 4 run deficit to even before the ghosts rallied again with two outs to bring home the final run for the win. Dracut is a powerhouse team and this is the first victory over this team for a very long time. Megan Scannell went 4 for 5 with two RBI’s including a double. After the grand slam tied the game, captain Alexa Sullivan (2-4) started the go ahead rally  with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with a single to left. She would be sent around the bases with a key single from Deanna Johnston who came in to pinch hit and a couple of walks by the Dracut pitcher. Emily Chateauneauf contributed to the offense going 2-5. The offense was also propelled by singles from Ally Mooney, freshman Angela Alibrandi, and Morgan Ross.  Captain Christie Raymond went 2-3 and pitched 5 and two third innings giving up 10 hits and 9 runs while striking out 3.  Alibrandi came in to finish the game, striking out three and walking one in  one and a third innings and giving up no runs. This was a tremendous victory for the team after suffering from three straight close losses. They play again at home on Monday at 4pm.
