Last Call: Registrations for March production of “Schoolhouse Rock LIVE” Extended to January 5

New local youth arts organization ArtsNashoba is bringing the Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series Schoolhouse Rock to life for its very first musical endeavor! Registration is now open to area youth aged 8 to 18 at www.artsnashoba.org for its March production - “Schoolhouse Rock LIVE,” extended to help accommodate hectic holiday schedules.   This inaugural production will be directed by JulieAnn Govang, with Musical Direction by Edie Tompkins.  Rehearsals will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 4-6pm, starting January 7, 2014 and will be held at The Union Congregational Church, 218 Main Street, Groton.  The first rehearsals will include group readings, music review and theatre games to determine which children will be placed in which roles.  There is no formal "audition" in this program - all are welcome, though it is recommended that participants be familiar with the music (see www.artsnashoba.org for links to songs).

This production will run March 28 (evening) and 29 (matinee and evening), 2014 at the state-of-the-art Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center at Lawrence Academy in Groton.

With complete silliness and fun, Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! teaches history, grammar, math, science and politics through clever, tuneful songs. Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher nervous about his first day of teaching, tries to relax by watching TV. Suddenly, characters step right through the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music! The show features such Saturday morning favorites as “Conjunction Junction,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and many more to delight both kids and parents alike!

ArtsNashoba was established during the summer of 2013 to continue the legacy begun by Groton Center for the Arts and Three Rivers Youth Theatre to help provide opportunities for youth to learn and grow using artistic endeavors as development tools, helping kids soar into their futures with a strong appreciation for the Arts. All children will be actively involved in the coordination of their costumes and props to ensure participants understand what goes on "behind-the-scenes" as well as onstage.

Registration will remain open through January 5, 2014.  The participation fee is $275/child; $250/siblings.  Please inquire about scholarship availability.  All participants must complete and return a Registration Agreement, which can be downloaded from the ArtsNashoba website and mailed with your check (made payable to ArtsNashoba, ATTN: SHR, P.O.
