Got the luck of the Irish? It could pay off in this week’s lottery, but you have to buy a ticket.

With no one matching the winning numbers of Friday night’s Mega Millions jackpot, the pot grows to $400 million for Tuesday’s drawing. The jackpot has been building since the last winner on Jan. 3.

The $400 million jackpot is the sixth largest in the United States. The largest jackpot on record was $656 million on March 30, 2012.

A lump sum payout of Tuesday's $400 million jackpot would net the winner $224.8  million before taxes.

The drawing is held at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18.

Chances may be unbelievably low but every time you buy a ticket it gives you hope and a very pleasant daydream or fantasy of what you would do if you won.... Without hope you've got NOTHING....

Great how some people have no problem shelling out over 5 bucks a day for their coffee fix and will then admonish against playing the lottery, even when the jackpot gets over 300 million. Few bucks for a chance at millions, easily more worth it than a cup of Joe.

Exactly, Stephen Weber. I buy lottery tickets purely for the chance to fantasize about what I would do with all that money. That's the fun part.

Still think the game would be a lot more fun if 400 people won a million.
