Westford's First Day of School

Here's a look at what's going on in Westford on Wednesday, August 28.

1. Farewell, Summer: Today is the first day of school for students in grades 7, 8, 10–12. Good luck this year, students. 

2. Today in history: On Aug. 28, 1957, Senator Strom Thurmond began a filibuster to stop voting on the Civil Rights Act of 1957. He spoke for 24 hours and 18 minutes, the longest filibuster in history. 

3. Job Seekers: Looking for employment? A meeting of the Westford Job Seekers will meet from 1 to 4:30 p.m. to aid you in pursuing professional positions. 

4. Weather: According to the National Weather Service, weather today will be mostly sunny with temps in the low to mid 60s.

5. Athletes: If your child is an athlete hoping to play a sport for Westford Academy this year, the school is holding a pre season meeting for athletes on Wednesday
