Flash Freeze to Make for Slippery Commute Wednesday, Thursday

Keep an eye on the forecast as temperatures are going to plummet.

By Liz Taurasi

Rain, followed by colder temperatures, is going to put areas at risk for a flash freeze Wednesday night and for Thursday morning’s commute, making for treacherous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. Wednesday night until noon on Thursday for most of Massachusetts and Rhode Island except for the immediate south coast.

A flash freeze is expected as temperatures plummet into the teens and lower 20s. Untreated surfaces impacted by rain and snow on Wednesday may quickly freeze over as the colder air arrives.

Steady rain is expected across the state Wednesday afternoon. Rain will change to snow between 10 p.m. Wednesday night and 4 a.m. Thursday morning, and a brief period of sleet and freezing rain is also possible. The small snow accumulations expected in the area may hide some of this ice making for an icy Thursday morning commute

Snow showers will continue Thursday morning before tapering off in the afternoon.
