High School Girls Basketball Playoffs bring out the best in all.
Playoff action started on March 4 at Blanchard Middle School. All of this action will result in 2 teams making the championship game to be held at Westford Academy at 8PM on Wednesday March 13 followed by our Award ceremony recognizing numerous players and featuring the Annual Presentation of personalized Hoodies for each of our 41 seniors. Also happening on the 13th is the HS Boys Championship at 6:30 PM.
Wild Thornberries 43
Green Slime 40
The Wild Thornberries and the Green Slime got the WYBA HS Girls’ playoffs started with an entertaining game with the Thornberries hanging on for a 43-40 win. The Thornberries had strong offense led by Jillian and Taryn Chrysikos. Katie Fitzsimmons added 7 with Corey Mains, Demi Zhang and Rachel Templeton contributing a basket each. Rachel Stanley dominated the second half by scoring 10 of her team high 13. Stacy Shackleton, Megan Bramanti, Emily Dias and Rachel Harkins rounded out the scoring for the shorthanded Green Slime. Just after the final buzzer sounded, Stacy Shackleton put up a perfect 3-point shot from NBA distance. Didn’t count but it was exciting.
Blue Angels 20
Pink Friday 11
During the course of this rugby match a basketball game finally broke out and the Blue Angels survived to beat a tough Pink Friday team. Points were scarce during this game but every single Blue Angel scored and played tough team defense to shut down Pink Friday’s scorers. Tas Bhinderwala and Sarah Russell led the Angels scoring combining for 9 points. Janice Lin scored a big second half basket. Emily Perrone led Pink Friday in scoring with 5 points and Brianna Mills added 2. Tough defense played by all.
Neon Trees 21
Green Giants 20
The joyous Jellyfish and the Charming Cheetahs played a pulsating playoff game. In the end the jumping Jellies completed a great victory over the great Cheetahs. For the chipper Cheetahs the amazing Alan Barrett had terrific layups. Daring Dani Roder played dynamite defense for the Jellyfish. Terrific Taylor Freud played so awesomely aggressive that she ferociously fouled out. Also the abombitable Abby Chirokas had lots of stealthy steals for the Jellyfish who move on to the Final Four.
Blueberry Squirrels 44
Neon Trees 37
The Blueberry Squirrels played a strong game and moved on to the Final Four over the tenacious Neon Trees, winners of 6 straight games. Casey Doremus led the Squirrels with 33 points.
