I don't know about you but since we've been married I pretty much had the same blender for years. Mostly sits on a shelf, it's old and doesn't work all that well. You know the kind, few settings, couldn't crush ice and you always had to shake the whole blender to mix the items inside for it to work. So over the years I barely used it. When I needed to blend anything, I usually opted for my good kitchen aid food processor. Never really wanted to invest in a blender, as it was not a priority in my kitchen of appliances. Good knives, saute pans, yes, blender, no. It could wait.
Well my daughter overheard me complaining about the blender and saw that I gave it away to charity, just taking up space and figured someone else might want to take a crack at it. Well she listened to my whining while cleaning out the basement and for Christmas a few years ago they bought me a brand new blender. You would have thought I wouldn't have been happy to get an item for Christmas that plugs in, but I was. Usually it's a no no in my house, at Christmas time (unless I asked for something plugged in, then it's safe to buy). I didn't ask for, but I was thrilled. I hadn't used a blender in so long I wasn't quite sure when I'd use it, other than frozen margarita's in the summer.
Well the one person who highly benefits from the purchase is my daughter. I don't know about you, but in our household, my kids sleep till the last minute. They are always scrambling in the morning before school with no time for breakfast. I normally get up before them and my blender has become a permanent fixture on my counter. It's a fast and easy breakfast that doesn't take much to prepare at all.
It's Strawberry Banana Smoothie and that's our fix for a quick breakfast.
Strawberry Banana Smoothie
- 10 Fresh Strawberries (you can use frozen fruit as well, strawberries, berries, peaches, whatever you like)
- Tip: If you use frozen fruit make sure to add extra liquid otherwise it comes out really super thick.
- 1 Large peeled banana
- 1 5oz Container Yogurt (any brand/flavor)
- 1/2 Cup Orange juice or Milk (We use Bolthouse Farms Mango Smoothie in a bottle)
To add a little substance to it, I usually sprinkle Wheat Germ in there (they don't know that) but can't hurt. Thanks Jen for that trick. You can omit it all together.
Whirl away in your blender and pour into a glass.
Hope you enjoy!
