Papa Gino's New England's Best Pizza, Westford's too!

I love the Pizza tournament! Almost as much as Papa Gino's!!!

Papa Gino's makes a classic thin crust pizza like none other in Westford.  The sauce is robust and has just the right sweet tomato zing!  The 3 cheese blend (with a dash of oregano) is the perfect savory compliment to top your pizzas.  The fresh dough made daily results in a chewy yet crunchy crust that carries all the special ingredients (and favorite toppings) to thier final destination: your belly!  I am getting my weekly Papa Gino's craving just writing this blog!

Papa Gino's also offers a rewards card program!  Loyal customers are given discounts for repeat business.  Papa Gino's staff is fast, friendly and informed.  Papa Gino's offers a variety of other great food items like subs (the BEST steak and cheese sub, that should be the next tourny Andy!), pasta dishes, burgers, salads and wings!  Papa Gino's also has a kid's menu!  Lastly and maybe the most clutch detail about Papa Gino's, you can order their delicious pizza by the slice!

I know the Pizza tournament is about pizza but I had to throw in a few good reasons why you should not only vote for Papa Gino's as Westford's best pizza but why you should visit them too...frequently!  Do both today!

Papa Gino's would be my first choice if my only other option was frozen vegan pizza.

I left a longer comment in the actual vote section, but...c'mon...anyone who thinks that Papa Gino's pizza is any good is just confirming the fact that they've never actually had good pizza. If I was at the bank, and needed to have a slice of pizza RIGHT NOW, and my legs refused to carry me to the BBC, then I would reluctantly go to Papa Gino's.

We are talking about Pizza right? 1961 Mike, that is all that needs to be said. That is the year Papa Gino's was founded on serving Pizza and Pizza alone. It must be a slow night in Mitt vs Barack world...because BBC spends most of its time boozing up its customers before they order it's mediocre food...and since when does a 'British pub' serve pizza anyways? Fish and chips pizza anyone? hahahahahahaha

DJ, it's wonderful that Papa Gino's has been able to sustain a successful business since 1961. Of course, that statement says nothing about the pizza....which is mediocre at best. Maybe it's popular because it's different from the thicker-crust Greek-style pizzas common in New England. Maybe it's the consistency that all chain restaurants strive for. Maybe it's the eat-in option.

I dunno. But what I do know is that it's inexplicably considered good pizza, but it's "good" pizza in the way people consider McDonald's "good" burgers. If someone ordered 10 pizzas for a soccer banquet, then sure, I'll have a slice if I'm hungry and its free.

If forced to say something good about Papa Gino's, I could honestly say that it's better than Dominos or Pizza Hut. And it absolutely beats the pants off of any frozen pizza.

The fact that Papa Gino's is considered the best pizza in Westford is a sad and telling statement about the quality of pizza in this town. Bertucci's in Chelsmford is in another league above PG as well as all the other pretenders around. Cornerstone would have served this community well if it had a place that made good brick oven pizza. No, it's not a life and death issue, but c'mon, PG is the best we can do?

Hey I never said PG was gourmet Pizza, but l am good with not having pulled pork or a salad on my pizza...just fresh dough, sauce and cheese. And by the looks of it most Westford Patch voters agree, again.

Until you have had pizza from Regina's in the North End, Santarpio's in East Boston and/or pizza at Pepe's or Sally's or Modern down in New Haven, CT, you can't even begin to understand. And if you have, you would/should almost upchuck eating that which should not be called pizza at PG. Not talking about gourmet pizza, just a traditional pie. And just because people around here agree, doesn't make it good pizza.

Bingo. I can't agree more. To a real pizza lover, a Santarpio's slice that fell off the table face down would still yield a better dining experience than anything from Papa John's. (Okay, maybe not if there was sawdust on the floor...) Still, the fact that so many Westford folks would even consider Papa John's as good pizza is definitely a sign that they haven't experienced decent pizza. (I'm a jaded former New Yorker, but I prefer Modern to most of what I grew up with...but Varasano's in Atlanta is probably the best I've ever had.)

But this Battle of the Pizzas is ONLY about those in Westford so bringing in all these other references is totally irrelevant. I say this being neither for OR against Papa Gino's.

Katie....understood that the "Battle of the Pizzas" is about Westford only....I think what is creating this backlash against DJW is his title statement of "Papa Gino's New England's Best Pizza".

Upchuck? Anyways, I consider Regina's #1 for sure. Which is exactly why I like PG, its a traditional thin crust pizza. Bertucci's is far from traditional and have gone severly downhill since being bought out by NE Restaurant Co. (Ever hear of Chili's and On the Boarder? #gross ) in 1998. Bertucci's is merely a roll restaurant now and that is not a good thing. And I used to like Bertucci's (even worked there in the mid 90's). If the majority votes for PG than that makes it good...in Westford.

If the majority of New England thought the Red Sox were great, would that make them a good team? I don't think so. And yes, you can get a traditional pizza at Bertucci's and it is MUCH better than anything at PG on a good day, even now. PG might rank up there if all you evaluated were dime-a-dozen, crummy local pizza joints, but they can't even be in the same conversation with a real pizza restaurant. I don't mean to be snide or condescending, but if you aren't Italian, we shouldn't even be having this conversation. And if you are, you should be ashamed of yourself. Ok, maybe upchuck was a strong word, undeserved even, but the title that PG is also New England's best pizza, now that is worth upchucking about.

Mike we are talking about Papa Gino's not Johns. I wouldn't feed a pig PJohns. Most of NE thinks the Sox are awful as reflected in a recent poll by the Globe that ranked the Sox 4th in popularity of the 4 major league teams in NE. But I sort of get your point G. I will reiterate that Regina's is my favorite pizza all time (plain cheese please). As luck would have it we ARE talking about 'local pizza joints', not what is in Chelmsford, Boston, NY or Atl...so here in Westford, in my opinion, PG is the best pizza. Followed by DiNapoli (both make traditional thin crust pizzas). After that they're all the same (sorry haven't had Mangia Mangia yet). And I am not touching the Italian comment #fagettaboutit

Wicked et al this isn't a pissing contest. 1st of all the blog title is derived from...wait for it...PG's actual slogan! And the blog was inspired by the Patch's Pizza tournament and to score 50 more points for my favorite WESTFORD pizza, PG (I assume everyone realized this?). If there were a burger tournament, and my blog was 'McD's, I'm lovin' it in the US and Westford too' I think you would get that right? Geez Louise. My blog title includes 'Westford' not just NE and more importantly it begins: I love the pizza tournament. Besides all the name dropping and trivia questins being obnoxious, they are ABSOLUTELY irrelevant to what pizza in Westford is the best. In Westford.

Hi folks, if you don't like Papa Gino's, write your own blog in support of your choice. Right now, Papa Gino's is way ahead in the race for the first seed in the tournament.

Mmm, I worked there when I was 17? That was about 20 years ago though. I am not going to write about pizza parlors outside of Westford because that was never the point (even though I have written, now 3 times Regina is my favorite..and I am afraid to say all time or in MA or in NE or in the World or whatever as it will possibly spark another stoning). Sorry Mike y PG haters.

Creed sold more albums in the US than Jimi Hendrix, does that popularity make Creed better than Jimi? :)

Popularity =/= quality.

More people are voting for PG as there favorite Westford Pizza, therefore it makes PG Westford's favorite PIzza.

Not sure about the Cread vs Jimi comment, I never mentioned popularity = good pizza, one of your fellow PG haters did. I merely said PG had the most votes.

To be clear, NE's Best Pizza is PG slogan. I thought readers would quickly recognize the slogan.
I added Westford in the title because of the Pizza Tournament. The 1st line in my blog was I love the pizza tournament.
The WTF = Westford comment is offensive too.

I didn't see that comment, I'll delete it now. Obscenity isn't acceptable under the terms of use, even abbreviated obscenity.

I love the Pizza tournament! Almost as much as DiGiornos!!!

DiGiornos makes a classic thin crust pizza like none other in Westford. The sauce is robust and has just the right sweet tomato zing! The 3 cheese blend (with a dash of oregano) is the perfect savory compliment to top your pizzas. The freshly frozen dough stocked daily results in a chewy yet crunchy crust that carries all the special ingredients (and favorite toppings) to thier final destination: your belly! I am getting my weekly DiGiornos craving just writing this blog!

DiGiornos doesn't offer a rewards card program! But thatz okay! Loyal customers are given discounts for repeat business with coupons in weekyl newspapers. I've never met them but DiGiornos staff is fast, friendly and informed. DiGiornos doesn't offer a variety of other food items like subs because they're all about the pizza, man! DiGiornos also has a kid's menu! (Well, not really, but you can cut up the slices seriously small, yo!) Lastly and maybe the most clutch detail about Papa Gino's, you can get their delicious pizza at Market Basket!

I know the Pizza tournament is about pizza but I had to throw in a few good reasons why you should not only vote for DiGiornos as Westford's best pizza but why you should visit them too...frequently! Do both today!

Isn't this, you know, plagiarism?

Comment_arrow

Mike

It's actually a parody.

Just demonstrates how easily one can throw together a string of nouns and adjectives, sprinkled with a dash of verb, to create something that doesn't really say much.

Your Silver Palate post is fairly ripe for that, too.

Since you posted it as your own separate "blog" in addition to this comment, is without question plagiarism, you changed words but kept sentence structure. I think you learn that in roughly middle school?

For all the spice you've added on this post and mine, you don't seem to have much actual opinion of your own. Why don't you try and be original and post something constructive?

First of all, there was no obscenity there, that acronym is used many times as an abbreviation for Westford. It was not meant to be an obscenity in any way.

Hi Gerard,

I've never heard that used as an acronym for Westford before, but you're welcome to put your comment up again if you clarify what you just said. For many folks, that acronym signifies an obscenity (at least the "F" part does).

Sorry man, that's the rules.

I've seen WST and WES as well. I guess we don't have to worry too much about this unless we build an airport in town...

@ Wicked and Gerard:

As lovers of decent pizza, you might be interested in this documentary about the quest for the ultimate pizza. Below is the text of an email from Jeff Varasano, the guy behind the pizza rankings site. He started out as a pizza loving tech guy whose obsession for the perfect slice ended up with his own pizza restaurant in Atlanta. I'd put it above Santarpios, Reginas and maybe even Modern. Enjoy! :

"Hello!
Apologies if you received this already.
I was approached by a film crew to produce an online documentary series as somewhat of an update to my recipe.
http://www.youtube.com/arcconyc
They asked me to spread the word.

The documentary series should delve into the recipe I created in order to get "New York Elite," style pizza in your own home oven, as well as give you a little more insight about me, my pizza, and my pizzeria.
I'm pretty excited for this!
Please subscribe, like, comment and spread the word to help make the documentary series a success!

I'll also try to post updates to my twitter. So by all means, feel free to follow me there as well!

Thank you so much!"
