Whole Foods Says It Is Coming to Westford
The announcement was made on Twitter at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday
Hey Westford, remember when you were wondering why Nashua was getting a Whole Foods instead of Westford? Well, guess what....
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Whole Foods' PR twitter feed announced that Westford will be getting a Whole Foods.
Other new locations announced this evening by the company include Toronto, Berkley, California; Los Angeles, West Palm Beach, St. Louis, Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Colleyville, Texas; Newport News, Virginia; and Lafayette, Louisiana.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
UPDATE - 7:10 p.m. - Whole Foods spokesperson Heather McCready has indicated in a press release that the store will be at Westford Valley Marketplace in a 43,000 square foot lot and will employ 200 people.
The release also indicated the store is set to open in 2016.

Of course, MB wont give up their lease in the old store to ward off competition for as long as possible.....but there is hope for fresh eggs in the town in the future,,,

Well "the people" voted to legalize drugs. So how can we complain about drug use from our kids? Isn't that what people wanted? It is all a very sad state of affairs.

Wow; 2016? Though, I couldn't see where they would fit 43k otherwise in Westford Valley Marketplace. It is a positive development as Whole Foods is a much healthier store and a far better corporate citizen than Market Basket.

Nickname is Whole Paycheck but the quality is superior. Energy bars are actually priced very reasonably at Whole Foods; both regular and sale prices tend to be lower for this product category and such at WF. There's still good deals on the more mainstream, but still natural and organic items (mainly brand name nonperishables) that you find at other stores.
The quality of prepared foods is second to none; I actually will go to Whole Foods in lieu of a restaurant when I am a reasonable distance from one. I find that 1/3 of a large pizza at their Woburn store fills me up just as much as 1/2 to 3/4 of a large at many other places. Burritos are very reasonably priced and I find that I can get out of there $1 or $2 cheaper than Chipotle when you factor in a drink, and I like WF burritos more (although they don't have burritos at every store). Sushi is very pricey, but it is of the quality you get at a really fine japanese place. Store made gelato/sorbetto (this is not at every store as well) tastes very good too, and is an alternative to an ice cream shop. Some of the fresh meats, cheese, produce, fish, etc. may overlap w/ Market Basket on a good day at MB in terms of quality, but generally they are of better and pricier at WF. What WF has that MB doesn't is priced high which is a what you get is what you pay for thing.

And I'll insert a price comparison; clif bars are $1.09 at Whole Foods or $12.39 for a case; and they may go on sale for $1 or $12 for the case. But, Whole Foods will from time to time put a $.50 store coupon on the single bars which makes them $.50 each. Regular price at MB for the same thing is $1.25 and they put it on sale for $1 w/ no store coupon.

Wondering why bobby "the builder" walker couldnt land whole foods? Clearly Whole Foods is the tenant the Town envisioned for walkers "life style center" with town green and pedestrian friendly access. Why couldnt he pull it off? By selling out to Market Basket, Bob seems to have given a gift to the old market basket plaza.

I really don't think people in Westford are too lazy to drive to Bedford. We are busy people and lots of people work in westford, but not all LIVE here. Also, the price of gas is high and it looks that while it may drop a bit, it won't be below $3 for a long time to come. I, like many I know combine my trips into the towns where I have the most errands to run--I don't go to Acton to go TJ, and unless I'm already planning a trip to Nasha I don't go the one there either--but I do occasionally get there. With a WF in Westford I see a lot of us getting more IN TOWN choices and that it will be well visited by people who both live here and work here. I don't shop in either MB unless I just need one or two things--I know it's more expensive but I go to Shop & Stop in Chemsford---pay a bit more (but not nearly as much as Donelans in Littleton), get money back towards my gas--and run a lot of errands while I am there. No one in Westford that I have known in my 15 years here, is lazy---it costs quite a bit of money to live here in town--so we try to watch our pennies, nickles and dimes. Also--it takes TIME to drive back and forth to Bedford--esp. if you have no other reason to go that far---TIME.
I'm hoping more for 2014 then 2016 that's for sure--and yes---it's about time!

Whole Foods and Market Basket carry many different brands of items. I, like many, will go to both on grocery shopping day. I will continue shopping the indies (Debra's, Idylwilde) for items unique to these shopping experiences.

Some people live quite far from whole foods. The westford one will be only 25 minutes. You need to think outside the box. Not everyone who will shop there will be from westford or is lazy.
