What Would You Like to See Go Into Cornerstone?

Welcome to our latest "Visions for Vacancies" feature, where we ask you what should go into vacant lots around Westford.

Hello Westford! Welcome to our second edition of "Visions for Vacancies", a new column where we ask the readers of Westford Patch what should go into vacant lots around town.

Last week, we began the series by asking what should go into the last two spots in Westford Valley Marketplace 2. Today we ask for your opinion on what you'd like to see less than a mile down the road, just past Mobil on the Run, in the place that everybody's been talking about for months.

That's right....what would you like to see go into Cornerstone Square?

Barring all other circumstances, what are your picks for the perfect selections for Cornerstone? Are you still hoping for Whole Foods? Maybe a Trader Joe's like the one that's coming to Nashua? Or maybe some other store?

And regarding the currently proposed tenants, have opinions changed over the larger proposed Market Basket only a few hundred feet away from the old one in Westford Valley Marketplace 1?

What about the other tenants (Five Guys, Panera, Burton's, Elements and the Family Eye Care Center) who are currently listed on Cornerstone's website?

Share your thoughts!

A nice clothing store like Ann Taylor or Banana Republic. Or some kind of upscale boutique. I like the idea of an upscale Marshall's like the one in Bedford. Or a TJ's that sells runway clothes like Bedford

Okay, if we're just just playing a "wouldn't it be nice" game, I have some ideas: a bubble tea place, a restaurant that serves local, sustainable food (like Nourish in Lexington) or a vegetarian/vegan restaurant (there was an amazing one called Cafe Sunflower near where we lived in Atlanta. I'm not a vegetarian, but I miss their awesome food).

If it's gotta be a chain, how about something we don't already have a ton of in the area. Sweet Tomatoes in an amazing soup/salad buffet chain--really outstanding. Ted's Hot Dogs makes the best hot dogs, onion rings, and shakes. Okay, I highly doubt either of those chains plan to come to this area, but that would be my dream tenants :)

I would like to see a Trader Joe's or an Asian Market (a smaller version of the "H Mart" that is in Burlington on Route 3A). "H Mart" features Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and even Indian foods (all layed out easily enough for everyone to shop at).

I would also like to see a French Bakery (like "Madeline's" in Virginia). Can the planned Panera Breads (which is locally baked here in Massachusetts and there was a great feature on them last night on "Chronicle") bring more gourmet breads, rolls, and desserts (on the French side) to their shop?

How about a "Korr's Ice Cream" (where they serve the best custard ice cream on the Boardwalk in Ocean City)?

How about a gourmet loose tea shop (like the "Cozy Tea Shop" in Hollis, NH).

How about a "Make your own Beer/Wine supply store" or perhaps a local Wine Vineyard (like say Nashoba Valley Winery) that can hold Beer and Wine tastings (and pair up with local chiefs to serve dinners from local meats, produce, and vegetables).

How about a local yarn shop (like the "Woolpack" in Acton) where people can gather to knit and/or crochet (and even learn this skill and teach it to their children).

How about a kitchen appliance and gadget store (like the "Kitchen Outfitters" in Acton).

The possibilities are endless, but we have to use our imagination and get out of the mindset that we have to have a "chain store" and look to locally based, and supported, merchants instead. A great upscale clothing consignment shop?

Being unique I think would be best. Chains are a dime a dozen and don't draw people in. If you have to have some then Whole Foods or Trader Joe's the rest should support the local small businesses. I like the idea of an authentic Italian Salumeria!!

I would love to have a restaurant designed around healthy food, art, entertainment and socializing - some version of coffeehouse type places I loved in Boston in the past where strangers came for lunch and sat together to play chess or checkers. Some had live acoustic music at dinner and table set aside where couples or people dining alone could choose to sit with other people, like on some cruise ships. Local art on the walls would give people who have just met something to talk about, and become a venue for artists. A fun place to go - with atmosphere!

I'd love to see a book store in our town. I also like the above idea of a restaurant that serves local sustainable food. I miss the charm of the long gone.....Old Oaken Bucket, Lazybones, Browse & Bean, Java Mama's, Colonial Oven Bakery, etc.

Agreed, Marcia, a local neighborhood pub/restaurant like the Bucket, Lazybones, or even better Ranchos would be great. In addition, a nice outdoor store that carried hiking, fishing, hunting items would be welcome (Blue Northern type with hiking/camping stuff).

We're on the north side of Nab, so this location isn't somewhere we'd go to for a quick trip (Nashua is just about as close). It would have to be something worthwhile. A GOOD local restaurant, there are way too few options in Westford. I'm not a fan of Trader Joe's. I'd travel across town for a Whole Foods, I use the one in Bedford now. A smaller version of H-Mart would be great. No more drug stores, mattress stores or pizza, please! Much as I'd like a bookstore, I think their days are numbered. A clothing store (a la the previous Ann Taylor or upscale Marshalls/TJ Maxx suggestions )would be good. My wardrobe has seriously suffered since moving to Westford 12 years ago...there's nothing here and I don't work near anything either, it's too much trouble to buy clothes now ;).

I don't think another market will come. We already have a Trader Joes in Acton. Wegman's would be good but they need a large lot. Whole Foods would have been perfect.

What I would like to see is something different than the boring cookie cutter stores that adds interest and variety. La Madelaine would be nice. An upscale health club with a heated pool would be great. A small outdoor area that could be a skating rink in the winter and used for concerts/movies/events in the summer. Upper Crust or Flatbread pizza. Italian market/deli. A small Asian market. Asian restaurants (Korean BBQ, Pho, Bahn Mi, Shabu Shabu, Thai) with emphasis of quality and authenticity. A brewery would be great. Summer Shack would be perfect for sea food. REI for outdoor equipment. An office supply store. Petit Bistro Robert French bistro. Kings bowling/billiards. Oh the possibilities that will never happen.
