Westford Man Seeks Seat in Congress

Westford resident Tom Weaver has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for Massachusetts’ third Congressional District in the hopes of unseating Congresswoman Niki Tsongas this fall.

“Our business owners are suffocating, taxes and fuel prices continue to rise, conflicts around the world are being fueled by a broken foreign policy, Veterans’ care is slipping and Congressional spending and political gridlock is at an all-time high,” said Weaver.

In addition to his work with the Boy Scouts and local Republican groups, Weaver’s main political cause according to his candidacy announcement has been participation in a national voter ID requirement movement called the “Show ID to Vote” campaign.

In his personal life, Weaver graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1974, which he followed with service as a navigator and an electrical officer in the Navy. He would later obtain a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1982 from MIT.

Currently he holds the position of president and CEO of DTW Systems, a Westford-based company providing solutions for water filtration needs.

Weaver ran for the Republican nomination in 2010, before Congressional redistricting removed Westford from what was then the Massachusetts Fifth Congressional District. He finished third with 6,143 votes, falling to Jonathan Golnik’s total of 11,384. Golnik would go on to lose to incumbent Nikki Tsongas in the general election.
