Follow Up
June 26, 12:15 a.m. – An erratic driver was spotted near Ace Hardware, with license plates indicating that the driver lived on Gauthier Lane.
Police were dispatched to the driver’s house, where he indicated he was getting some cigarettes on Drum Hill in Chelmsford.
According to the police report, the driver sounded coherent in his speech and there was no aroma of alcohol on his breath.
June 26, 2:30 p.m. – Police were dispatched to Elm Road for reports of a man who was hit in the head by a rock by a child. No charges were filed.
June 28, 9:33 p.m. – During a regular patrol, a teenager was spotted on top of a large air conditioning unit near the rear of an abandoned building on Littleton Road.
The teenager was approached by the officer on patrol, at which point he told him that he was smoking marijuana.
When asked why, the teenager said, “This is just a place I like to go smoke. That’s all.”
The marijuana was inside a small CVS pill bottle and the teenager also was in possession of a glass pipe with what the officer described as burnt marijuana.
From there, the teenager was issued a $100 citation for violating town marijuana bylaws, and his father arrived on the scene to pick him up, telling the officer that the teenager would be punished further for his actions.

Westford Academy's best and brightest. I really hope we as a town can come together and save our kids from the rash drug use sweeping through town

A rash of drugs? Talk about over reacting. WA has just as many issues with drugs as any other surrounding town. I'm not saying drug use is ok, but come on!

And speaking of WA...we hear VP Goldberg opted for a job in a neighboring town with fewer funding challenges (Lexington) leaving the VP job open. Anyone know who will be WA's next vice Principal to support Jim Antonelli?

It's a shame when WA principal Antonelli was emailed asking for number of students disciplined for drugs he refused to give the info, we in the community had to read it in the Boston Globe but can't get it directly from him, this is part of the problem as has been stated here before

When Principal Antonelli refused to release information on the number of students disciplined, offense[s] made, or the nature of disciplinary action[s] taken, he was simply following appropriate protocol used to notify the state of any disciplinary actions taken at WA. It is NOT Principal Antonelli's right to release this information to anyone other than the proper authorities. As we can see in the Boston Herald, after the information has been reviewed and verified, the state of Massachusetts is happy to release public information, when petitioned under the The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Have patience, I am sure that the 2011-2012 report will be out at the appropriate time.

If you look at the punishments for marijuana use/possession, in every instance but one, the student was expelled (or perhaps excluded). One student had an out of school suspension. How does the administration decide who should be expelled and who should receive a suspension?

Sounds a little like nepotism doesn't it?

Westford mom, so you are saying Principal Antonelli doesn't have the 'right' to let us know how many students were found with drugs in say, the WPD dog raid? That's contrary to what I have been told so can you please elaborate on why legally he doesn't have the right to answer a basic non individual student related question with being in viollation?
When my neighbor voiced this frustration at the town drug forum super Olsen didn't answer anything about JA not having the 'right' but rather said he would speak with his principal and try to improve communication between WA and the community in regard to drug information...

I'm way late on this but it slid over from the right of my screen saying people were talking about it? Weird, just a couple things to point out
"WA's best and brightest. I really hope we as a town can come together & save our kids from the rash drug use sweeping through town"
Is there another story with more facts? It didn't say he was a W resident, went to WA, was school age or still enrolled in school. I graduated at 17 from high school (not home schooled) I was a teen for 3 more years though long since graduated.
He was 19 at the oldest so probably lived at home & the cop can't let the kid drive even if he had a license so calling the parent means nothing either.
A teen smoking pot on a roof, how many of you did it & turned out ok. Or a cigarette, or beer. Kids will be kids. Teach them, love them, discipline them. Show them what a well adjusted adult is & try to believe the world isn't going to end b/c a teen was found toking on a roof.
In my H.S. kids were doing lines of coke between classes, shooting heroin in the stalls, countless dog raids, expulsions & teens doing stints in prison. Heck two kids (separate fights & one was a girl fight) did time for attempted murder in a fight that happened 10 ft from me. Both still haunt me.
The common denominator was lousy parents most of whom did drugs too. Do your job & 99% of the time your kids will turn out fine. You nor anyone else can shelter them from everything, you can teach them how to deal with it.
