TELL US: What Does Westford Need to Preserve?

There's a forum tonight at the Millennium School, but today we want to hear your thoughts.

At 7 p.m. tonight at the Millennium School (behind the Abbot School), the Westford Community Preservation Committee will meet to discuss applications for Community Preservation funding proposals for the 2013 Fiscal Year, which begins on July 1, 2013.

But we can't wait for 7 p.m.

Today, we want to ask you: what does Westford need to preserve to maintain its character? And what should the town spend money on toward that goal? Open Space? Historical places? Infrastructural initiatives? Maybe even nothing?

Tell us what you think in the comments.

And for additional information contact Dan O’Donnell, Budget Director at (978) 399-2573, or head to the Community Preservation Committee page on the Westford town website.

The biggest issue to preserving the town is pedestrian access, as the roads continue to get more busy, and parking continues to be a greater issue at town and community events.

Perhaps not as much a "preservation" initiative... but we need more sidewalks in higher pedestrian areas, particularly: connecting Four Corners intersection to the town center; and roads leading to Westford Academy.

We also need better parking near the town center and at East Boston Camps, the two locations where Westford regularly holds public, town-wide events (for which we can no longer support parking and access).

I totally agree. Boston Road needs a sidewalk from Cornerstone bars/ cafes instead of DUIs. Hildreth St. is a speedway of curves, hills and litter, pot holes, tree limbs and neglect-apathy. Lots are needed in our parks, trails and school zones. Hello? Otherwise I just figure it's just another trashy suburb for commuters.

I think we should spend another $500,000 on a private entity again.

What did we spend $ 500,000.00 on?

Sorry, a bit of an exaggeration: $387,000 on the FPCU

Crazy---only a crazy person would try to walk from corner to corner on 4 corners--people drive like mainiacs and run the lights all the time.

But I do like the idea of better parking at EBC. Also over at Stone Arch Bridge. And one more spot---some of the OTHER entrances to the Tom Paul Trail---the one at the Town Hall has great parking at the Library but none at the other parts of the trail.
I LOVE our trails--would love to see even MORE!

I actually have crossed the street at Minot's Corner, believe it or not. Definitely a harrowing experience!

this town was so fun and more peaceful before it started turning into chelmsford the more development= the more traffic and congestion it will bring to the area something we all dont need in our everyday life. preserve open space because you will miss it when its gone this town used to be a country town with barley any development and now we think we have to become a town with shopping centers all over the place destroying land that we will never get back in order to be succsessful. places such as east boston camps and the stone arch bridge need to be left untouched as they are the only natural habitats left for some species in our town the construction of pavement parkinglots in these areas will damage the surrounding ecosystem just so you can have a nice cement space with two white lines to park your car...the way it is is fine if you dont want your car to get dirty dont bring it there. runoff from such places will poison the water with motor oil and other chemicals therfore poluting our drinking water!.... preserve open land because its the best thing this town has to offer and it is dissapearing year by year.

Development is always going to happen. The issue is whether it's smart development that strikes a reasonable balance between growth and preservation of the existing qualities that drew people to this town.

Everyone can always say, "It was better when..." It takes a lot more thought to say "I'd love if Westford was..."
