Should The Traffic Light at McDonald's Be Moved Closer to Minot's Corner?

It's probably not going to happen, but we wanted to get your take after the discussions about the possibility of it after the past few weeks.

Okay, if you live in Westford, no doubt at some point you've been driving down Littleton Road and you've been caught into the Westford Valley Marketplace 2/Westford Plaza traffic whirlpool.

So, today we want to get your take on something that has been come up several times over the past few weeks in town government circles: moving the traffic signal from McDonald's down to between Westford Valley Marketplace 1 and 2 and the edge of D'Angelo's.

Is that going to happen? Almost certainly not at this point. But it was discussed, and now we want your take.

For more information on this topic, check out 7:00 to 10:30 during the Feb. 26 Selectmen's Meeting and 8:00 to 35:00 during the Feb. 19 Planning Board Meeting on the Westford CAT site as well as documentation presented at the Feb. 26 Selectmen's Meeting attached here.

The construction for Minot's Corner will begin in the spring and likely conclude in 2015, with the construction being done in small parts to minimize traffic delays.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Its an effective light position letting traffic exit the marketplace as well as McD and the BBC. Market basket is still very busy and that wont change when it switches to a Wholefoods. the question is better put does the CVS plaza also need a light. Admitted its hard to turn left out of that plaza but I don't think that requires a light be installed.

I always make the right turn. Otherwise it would be a wrong turn.

No why would you do that? You need the light for McDonald's a very busy spot with shoppers coming out on opposite side of route 110. I dont think moving the traffic signals would accomplish anything. How about a stoplight for ice cream strollers at Kimball's? Very dangerous there.

How about one at the Common so your not sitting there 10 minutes trying to get out and take a left from Boston Road. You have cars coming from the library area that are turning down Boston Road and no one will give you a break. Eve if they can't turn they block you from getting out. Really becoming a dangerous intersection.

That's just what we need! More lights on Littleton road - At Market Basket 2, at the truck exit between the MBs (than people keep insisting on turning into.) While we're at it, we should add a couple more strip malls, with their own lights, maybe build a couple large residential complexes, put lights up for them too. Fill up the old gravel quarry off Powers Road with several large, multi-story office parks. Then widen old Rt 110 to 4 lanes in each direction and put a divider down the middle. Put a couple U-turns at the Chelmsford and Littleton borders. With all the development that's happened you'd think we see our residential property taxes going down!

I think we could use another one at the intersections of 495. (just kidding) The light at the southbound on-ramp in the right hand lane going up to the center does absolutely nothing but make you stop. In all seriousness though, i think a light is needed at the Marketplace 2 shopping center. In addition, I think that the lights at Minot's corner are dangerous. When i first moved here i almost got toasted making a left onto carlisle road from 110 b/c it doesn't say anything about the light staying green for the oncoming cars. The two oncoming lanes turning towards 495 get a red but the other lane stays green when though the opposite turning lane gets a green (albeit not a green arrow).

Westford used to be a really nice place before all the plazas and traffic lights. We overbuilt the area and are stuck with it. I have no doubt they will put a few more traffic lights along that stretch of road in the near future. So much gas is wasted sitting at all the stop lights while traveling on 110 now. So much pollution. So many chain restaurants. It's depressing.

Westford WAS a nice place to live as recently as 7 -10 years ago. The debacles with our teachers having to take to the pavement due to disagreeing with the School Committee, Hard drugs all over the high school, and a Activist BOS that feel above the will of the people only further exacerbate the issue of declining quality of living due to sprawl.
I have a feeling that if Iron Mike were in charge he would rule like Don Corleone and clean up this mess ("never again take sides against the family")

If I were granted 3 wishes they would be:
The ability to trace the drive-by comments like "hard drugs all over the high school", wait the patch can do that, warn and disable accounts, priceless!
Second I would cross check the list of drive-by commenters with the list of WPS employees.
Third each WPS employee caught making drive-by comments would be terminated, no paid administrative leave, ... GONE, DONE, ... They are a cancer and do not belong in front of our children.
Buzzzz that!

Vinny one of the many questions I have is how are we/you so confident these are baseless claims?
From what I have heard they are pretty accurate. Were you at the town meeting last spring at Kimball Farms? Plenty of parents there sharing what they knew from their kids about the prevalence of all sorts of drugs at WA.
Just because some people point out things you would rather downplay you want their speech squelched? How 'Westford' of you. Why don't you look into the claims if you think they are baseless and see for yourself. If you want to do something You will be free to do do, those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Take a look at Group 4, "hard drugs all over the high school", I doubted it and there is NO proof of it there. Just a disgruntled commenter with a grudge, ball is in your court, prove me wrong!

Hi folks,

This article is about a stop light. Not drugs.

Thanks.

I agree, that is a clear MO/trait of the drive-by comments post them often, everywhere, ... they don't need no stinking facts!
