POLL: What Should The Speed Limit Be on Boston Road?

Last week the Board of Selectmen added a new speed limit sign on the road.

During last week's Board of Selectmen meeting, a new speed limit sign was approved on Boston Road just south of Crown Road.

Today we ask if the real change that needed to be made on the road connecting Westford's town center with 495 was a new speed limit.

Forget the laws governing the state run part of the road for a second, if you could wave a magic wand and make the speed limit on Boston Road the speed you think it should be, what would that number be?

So who thinks that changing the speed limit on Boston Road is going to fix the traffic back-ups at the Minot's Corner traffic light? How about rekeying, and adjusting, the lights (especially the time that the Left Turn Arrow is on for)?

Oh why would we want to fix the traffic back-up problems? Why let's adjust the speed limits instead? Seriously, someone needs to shake our Westford Selectman back to their senses (and wave some smelling salts under their noses and bring them back to reality)!

Kathleen,
The State controls the lights and sequencing. Only in MA do we have on lighting program for all lighted intersections. Other States, Countries are able to adjust the lights to each particular circumstance. Why are those lights not blinking between 8pm and 6am? Ridiculous and the State is to blame.

Kathleen, I believe this action is because the WPD has been caught with their pants down a couple of times re: speeding citations where officers incorrectly pulled drivers over when they weren't actually speeding, and recorded the speed limit incorrectly. They need a sign to correctly reflect the speed limit since the officers don't even know what it is. Sort of a cover your ass thing. :)

Did the selectman say the sign was being put in for traffic control?
