Patrick Looks to Raise $1 Billion in Income Taxes
Money would help pay to improve transportation system and education in the commonwealth.
Governor Deval Patrick is expected to propose $1 billion in new taxes to help pay to improve the state’s transportation system and expand early education programs, reported The Boston Globe.
Patrick is expected to announce the plan at his State of the Commonwealth speech Wednesday night.
The plan is to increase the state income tax from 5.25 percent to 5.66 percent, which would raise $1 billion. Patrick’s plan would also need to raise other taxes and fees to pay for the spending increases of $1.5 billion next year and $2 billion annually after that, according to The Globe.

Government greed knows no boundaries.

We are the 4th highest taxed state, and lead the country (We're Number One! Yeah!) in per capita debt.
I've been in Massachusetts a long time and here is how it works (also detailed very eloquently in the CLT press release): Raise a bunch of taxes by highlighting one of the most visible parts of government going broke, they blow the money on other stuff, neglecting the infrastructure enough to cry wolf yet again. Fed taxes going up, State taxes trying to go up, Local taxes (get ready for the override attempt) trying to go up, all while still recovering from a government caused recession.
By the way, the Guv doesn't want more of your money just to fix roads and transportation, he wants it to expand public transportation. Let's write our state officials, tell them NO WAY and tell them to get independent audits of where the state and local monies are going today! And, tell them to only increase funding for transportation by cutting other areas of government.

We are voting YES in Westford's soon to be Prop 2.5 override and so are most of the residents I know so that we will continue to have blue ribbon public schools. Our hope is for a new technology director and iPads issued to ALL students....mitt Mentum in full effect!
