LETTER: Wormell Voices Support for Lewin's Candidacy

The following is a letter to the editor. If you have a letter to the editor, e-mail us at westford@patch.com

Please join me in voting for Matt Lewin for Westford’s Planning Board in the May 1st Town election. Matt will bring tremendous analytic skill, focus and drive to the position.  These are the traits he demonstrated leading the Unaccepted Roads Committee, solving a decades old problem.

The Planning Board will face many challenges in the years ahead, from rewriting the sign bylaw to implementing the Comprehensive Master Plan. I cannot think of a better person for the task.  Matt investigates what can and cannot be done, listens to what is wanted, assesses the cost and brings clarity to the outcome. He is willing to work hard toward a solution.

The most remarkable characteristic Matt possesses is his keen interest in the role the Planning Board can play to protect natural resources such as open-space, while using development mitigation to offset the residential tax burden. It is truly remarkable because Matt has attended nearly every Planning Board meeting for the past three years to learn how to make it happen.  And his participation on the Finance Committee has shown him what to push for.

Please join me in support of Matt Lewin for the Westford Planning Board if you want a leader who will rollup his sleeves and face challenges head on.

Vote for Matt Lewin for Westford Planning Board on Tuesday, May 1st.

i am interested in where Matt Lewin stands on the issue of parking for the BFRT in Westford. Does anyone know? Matt, if you are reading this, can you comment here so folks know your position on this issue. Thanks in advance.

I think the Town should make it a priority to provide access to the myriad of conservation land and trails we have. As it pertains to the BFRT, though, I remain unconvinced that parking within Westford is a necessity. Annual Town Meeting approved the acceptance of a $5,000 gift from the Friends of the BFRT, a portion of which might reasonably be used for the technical work associated with determining the need for parking.

Thanks Matt. Appreciate your response.

My take on the the article (#15) approved at Town Meeting was that the $5,000 will be used to determine where the parking lot might go and what it might look like. It does not suggest spending any time or $ on determining need. Unfortunately, I think your impression is a common one. In fact, Town Meeting voted against (narrowly) the article (#18) that requested exactly that - determine the need before you start designing and developing plans for parking. The logic of that seems obvious to me, but I guess not. Good luck on Tuesday.
