Westford's motto is that it is a peaceable community, but as the town grows and times change, a question lingers as to whether that peacefulness has been lost, particularly among its residents.
So today, following in footsteps of Somerville's happiness survey last year, we're asking all of you where you would rank the happiness of the town as a whole on a scale of 1 to 10.
We'll keep the poll open until Friday, June 15 and announce results the following week.

Life is way too short to be so miserable in your job and life. Might be time to do something else somewhere else.

The real irony is that till this year teachers were estatic about the opportunity to work in Westford and almost couldnt be happier, the fall has been quick and hard this year from what I hear and not only from 'complaining cup half empty' personality types

From what I have read form all the teachers and union people on this blog, they have not been happy. Even with all these steps etc they are still below neighboring towns in pay scale. Which is it? Happy or not happy?

Have they lost their jobs? Will they be working next year? Have parents been abusing them? Do they have a nice summer coming up? I can imagine how downtrodden they must feel.

"Have they lost their jobs?"
A lot of them don't know yet
"Will they be working next year?"
Same as above
"Have parents been abusing them?"
Always.
"Do they have a nice summer coming up?"
Some do. But many teach summer school to make ends meet or have other summer jobs to pay off student loan debts or pay the bills. If you work Mon-Fri would I be right to assume you don't have a night job or a weekend gig.
"I can imagine how downtrodden they must feel."
You don't know anything about them or what they do which makes you incapable of accurately imagining how they feel.

I didn't. Mobey did. I simply said I can imagine how they feel. I personally hope they don't sign the contract and we can FINALLY go to court and get this over with. Teachers lose or we lay off teachers.

Honestly there are some people in this world that are never happy - they always need/find something to complain about if not in their lives, in their community or in this world. There are other people in this world who are content/happy that they have a home, family, friends, health, etc and are able to roll with the punches that life can sometimes dish out. I'd put myself in the latter category, although admittedly it is sometimes hard to roll with the punches. But unfortunately, all I see from the comments on various Patch articles is the former. Makes me believe that Westford is unhappy although I would like to believe otherwise.

I believe Westford is mostly happy. The posts on this blog maybe include 20-30 people on an daily basis. That is a very small sample. Though some may gripe about certain issues it certainly should not dominate their thoughts on how they feel about Westford as a whole.

I always wondered how the smiley face got on the blinking light. Isn't that technically in Chelmsford? If it were in Westford, I'd suggest it for a "Patch Answers" column.
