Is It Possible to Live in Westford Without a Car?

The vehicular travel ban during the blizzard earlier this month got us thinking, and we were wondering about your take.

As we all remember, just a few short days ago, Governor Patrick declared all of the roads off-limits to all but a few vehicles due to the blizzard that dropped two feet of snow onto Westford.

Still, Nashoba Valley Ski Area remained open and people were still walking and snoeshoeing their way down and that got us to thinking: is it possible to live in Westford without a car?

After all, this town existed before the invention of cars and people still were able to get around.

Would that be feasible with today's lifestyle?

Would the town's land use planning practices have to change if suddenly all the cars disappeared off the roads like they did for a few hours during the blizzard?

Would you even still want to live here?

Would gyms go out of business due to all the extra exercise people would probably get from walking more?

Would there be some other form of transporation that would take the place of cars?

We want your take! Tell us in the comments.

Is it possible to live in Westford without a Board of Selectmen who have all been in office for quite some time , no new encumbents, and when the Chairman proposes
bans on guns with magazines, knowing well that a ton of money will then have to be spent defending NRA and others' suits when in fact the ban will only further facilitate armed crooks. let's get real... why would anybody want to live in
Westford (hence lowering real est value, tax revenues, ) other than far left radicals

Even if the gun ban fails to pass at town meeting ya have to admit the town has been derailed by poor leadership and isn't close to the great place it once was! We have become in so many ways a laughingstock to our neighbors on a variety of issues. My all time favorite is the illegal food storage out at the warehouse where rats peed on the napkins and plastic ware for the school kids and the super never raised an eyebrow

With 0 public transportation, no sidewalks, and a large square mileage footprint. No

Before there were cars in Westford, transportation with horses was much more common. Also, Westford had six railroad stations and an electric trolley at one point.
