Hannaford is Asking For it Again

Welcome to our look at Westford area grocery prices

A few months ago, Hannaford did a price comparison with a few of its nearby competitors. Of course, Patch did an independent verification.

We didn't see that sign again until last week (see pictured), which we felt obligated to once again check for you here.

Those items are

  • 4 rolls of Scott bathroom tissue
  • Pop Tarts, approximately 14.5 oz.*
  • 16 oz. of generic Sour Cream
  • 8 oz. of Cool Whip
  • 7 oz. (six pack) of Klondike Ice Cream

All prices were checked on June 5, and starting this week, we put their locations in the store in parentheses. **

Prices and availability may change without notice, and may include additional taxes or fees not indicated on the price sticker.

  • * - A box of Pop Tarts actually varies in overall size depending on flavor.
  • ** - We're naming the freezers between the bread case in Aisle 8 and the flowers in Donelan's as "Freezer Junction" for the time being. That little area isn't quite an aisle, but there are freezers further up in Aisle 8 that are separate from that area.

I think it is a sad statement about American cuisine that Hannaford thinks the, quote "items you buy the most!" (according to the sign) include: Pop Tarts, Cool Whip & novelty ice cream.

How about some useful info, like the price of whole grain bread or pasta, or apples, or broccoli?

Hurrah for the toilet paper. I will switch stores for cheaper necessities bought every week, not for cheaper treats bought once in a blue moon.

As far as the point of this particular article goes -- thank you for saving the community some legwork and for keeping local stores honest!

Hi Anastasia,

We did fruit last week and veggies the week before that, we can do different kinds of bread next week!

When it comes to plain old 12 to 16 oz. loaves of white bread, prices near Westford hover around $1.00 to $1.25ish and have remained constant for months on end. Not sure about specialized bread though!
