Cumberland Farms Fire Suppression System Covers Six People

The incident began shortly after noon on Monday.

 

Patch has been told that extinguishers have gone off automatically at Cumberland Farms on Littleton Road.

Several emergency vehicles were in the vicinity as of approximately 12:40 p.m. on Monday, for what we believe are decontamination efforts.

UPDATE - 2:52 p.m. - The Westford Fire Department still has an engine on the scene and Cumberland Farms is closed off to incoming traffic. There is a white substance over cars, the ground and windows at the gas station.

Readers have indicated that they saw animal control arrive at the station at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Traffic on Littleton Road is normal.

UPDATE - 5:59 p.m. - Westford Fire Chief Richard Rochon has released a statement regarding the incident, noting that six people and 10 vehicles were doused by a fire suppression foam which had activated.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was dispatched to the scene for cleanup efforts and none of the six people required further medical attention.

Rochon noted that the store will remain closed until proper inspections of the site can be done.
