Blended Frozen Coffee, with Help from Dracut's Shaw Farm

A delicious spring drink with the help of Shaw Farm, which makes home deliveries to Westford.

This week I have a recipe for you that’s easy, delicious, and will save you money!

I must admit, I have an addiction to those pricey frozen blended coffee drinks. Yum! So I decided to play around and make my own.

Making this recipe even better, did you know that Shaw Farm now offers milk delivery to Westford? They sell both organic and regular milk—both are delicious!  They also deliver a whole bunch of other items in addition to milk, so check them out.

This recipe will also reduce waste. At least in our house, there’s always a little bit of coffee left in the pot. So instead of throwing it down the drain, I put it in ice cube trays and freeze it. The frozen cubes can be stored in a freezer bag until you’re ready to make frozen coffee. Of course you can always just brew some coffee specifically to freeze—that’s what you’ll have to do if you have a single serve coffee maker.

Ingredients to make two large glasses of frozen coffee:

  • 2 cups frozen coffee ice cubes
  • 1 ½ cups milk (Non-fat works fine, though whole milk is really delicious if you’re not worried about calories!)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
  • Chocolate syrup for drizzling

Directions:

  1. Place all items in a blender. Blend on the ice chop or frozen drink setting until smooth. You can add additional milk if you want a thinner drink, or less milk if you want a “drink” that’s easier to eat with a spoon. You can also add more or less sugar, or even throw in flavored syrup for additional yummy-ness!
  2. Holding your glass on an angle, spin the glass and drizzle chocolate syrup around the inside. Pour the blended coffee into the glass. Top with whipped cream if desired (recipe below).

Ingredients to make homemade whipped cream:

I’m including a recipe here for homemade whipped cream. It’s so easy to make, you’ll never go back to store-bought whipped “cream” in a can! This step is optional, but I love my frozen coffee with a dollop of whipped cream on top!

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

Whipped cream directions:

  1. Place all ingredients in a large bowl. Beat with a wire whisk until the cream turns into whipped cream (it will take approximately 5 minutes). Be careful not to over-beat, as it will start to get flecks of butter forming in the whipped cream. You can also use a stand mixer with whisk attachment, but be sure to watch closely so you can stop as soon as it’s whipped cream.
