Nashoba Tech Takes Second in Dessert Contest
The awards keep piling up for Nashoba Valley Technical High School’s Culinary Arts program. And this one may be the sweetest of all — literally.
Nashoba Tech took second place in the recent Evening of Sweet Indulgence, competing against 18 other local restaurants and bakeries. Nashoba Tech bakers made pecan tarts with a bourbon-caramel sauce.
The event, held at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center and sponsored by Congregation Beth Israel of Merrimack Valley, was hosted by “TV Diner” host and KISS-108 personality Billy Costa, who had nothing but praise for Nashoba Tech.
“Billy couldn’t say enough about Nashoba Tech’s Culinary Arts program,” Whiting said. “He told the people in attendance that there is no better culinary-arts program in the state than Nashoba Tech’s. He had nothing but kind words for the school.”
Costa is no stranger to Nashoba Tech. In 2008, he filmed a segment of his popular “TV Diner” show, which airs on NECN, in the kitchen of Nashoba Tech’s in-school restaurant, The Elegant Chef, then returned to speak at the commencement ceremony for the class of 2008.
Nashoba Tech competed in the Evening of Sweet Indulgence against such establishments as Burtons, Cakes by Design, Cobblestones, Edible Arrangements, Shaw Farm, Starbucks and Moonstones, the eventual winner.
