Haystack, Historical Speaking Lecture at WHS Museum
Haystack, Historically Speaking
Free presentation at the Westford Museum
Jeff Dominick, site manager of the Lincoln Space Surveillance Complex at the MIT Lincoln Lab facility at Millstone Hill, will present a history of the facility at the Westford Museum, 2 Boston Rd., Westford, on Monday 9 April at 7:00 p.m.
“Haystack,” as it is commonly known, has been located on Millstone Hill in the northwest corner of Westford for over 50 years. For the past 40 years, the MIT NEROC Haystack Observatory, a separate research unit of MIT, has administered the site and conducted a wide range of unclassified, federally funded scientific research, alongside the Lincoln Laboratory programs.
Mr. Dominick will speak about the history of the MIT facility and the radio science and radar experiments conducted there. A history of this unique site and the diverse instruments and experiments on the hill will be described, from the 1950s to the present day.
The talk is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
